OAKS Testing

Our students are working very hard on their final OAKS Math test. We hope to have them finished up tomorrow. We hope that we will see lots of improvement from our Fall OAKS scores.

Please encourage your child to get lots of rest and to eat a good healthy breakfast and lunch.

Thanks,
Mrs. Pitner

Art Show!

Thanks to all the sponsors of the Pendleton School District Art Show.
It is always amazing to see the talent of the students who participate. We saw many great pieces of art.

After walking to the Convention Center to view the art, we posed for a picture in front of our banner.

Next we enjoyed treats from Dairy Queen. Our class won the Box Tops competion for bringing in the most Box Tops throughout the year. We celebrated with Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen. They were a huge hit with the kids. Thanks to the Parents Club for awarding the prizes that helped cover the cost of the bars.

Finally we walked back to school. What a great day for exercise, art and ice cream!

Hot Pot Reading

Dear Parents,

We are starting a new reading program at West Hills. The goal is to get students to form the habit of nightly reading. Each night after your child has read 15 mins. or more, fill out the slip of paper and return it to school. If you child brings back four slips per week, they will be awarded with a hot-pot (hot chocolate)on Friday afternoon. We hope that this will help motivate students to continue to read through the rest of the school year. This is a great way to help your student work on meeting their AR goal by nightly reading. Once they read an AR book at home, they can take the test on it here at school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Merriman or myself at school.

Thanks
Mrs. Pitner

Science Grad Student!

Our Grad student from University of Oregon is here this week to help us learn about the properties of sound. She has some great experiments for us to try. The kids will get a lot of hands on experience in science these next two weeks. We are so excited to have Miss Leslie here with us.
